Caring for your health

Medical insurance -- SunTrust makes several types of coverage available to you and your family beginning the first day of employment for full-time employees. Part-time employees become eligible after four months of service. Options are based on your home zip code and may include a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) with two design options, a Build Your Own Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) choice, or an Out-of-Area Plan if you live outside the PPO network. Everyone who enrolls in a SunTrust medical option also has prescription drug coverage choice.

Dental insurance -- All employees may choose from two levels of coverage: Basic and Plus. If you live in a network area, you will have the Dental HMO as an option. Coverage becomes available to you and your family on the first day of employment for full-time employees. Part-time employees become eligible after four months of service. The Basic and Plus plans offer discounts if you choose to see a dentist who participates in the PPO network. The Dental HMO benefits are based on a patient charge schedule. Orthodontia benefits are offered as part of the Plus Dental HMO coverage.

Vision care -- This program, available to full-time and part-time employees, covers an annual eye exam and a wide range of glasses (lenses and frames) or contacts (which you can select instead of glasses), as well as access to discounts on laser eye surgery.

Health Care Flexible Spending Account -- Set aside up to $5,000 pretax per year to pay for health care expenses (such as lasik surgery, childbirth classes, and dental and orthodontia care) not covered by your medical insurance.

Protecting your income

Life insurance -- Basic life insurance and AD&D coverage equal to 1½ times annual base pay is provided by the Company to full-time employees. Part-time employees receive $10,000 worth of basic life and AD&D coverage.

Long-term disability -- Long-term disability provides 60% of your annual base salary if you are deemed totally disabled by the insurance carrier. Full-time employees are eligible for this company-paid benefit beginning the first of the month following 12 months of service.

Long-term care -- You may purchase optional long-term care insurance, available to full-time and part-time employees. Long-term care insurance helps provide for your care when you are unable to perform the basic activities of daily living, such as eating, bathing and dressing. Coverage is also available to your eligible dependents who qualify.

Group Universal Life -- As a full-time or part-time employee, you may purchase optional Group Universal Life (GUL) insurance for yourself and eligible dependents at group rates.

Securing your future

401(k) Plan -- You are eligible as soon as you join SunTrust and you may enroll at any time after your hire date. You may elect pretax contributions up to 20% of your pay. Each time you contribute to the 401(k) plan, SunTrust will match your contributions dollar for dollar on your first 3% contributed, and 50 cents on each dollar on the next 2% contributed. You will be 100% vested in the Company's match as soon as it is allocated.

Retirement Plan -- After you have completed five years of service, you become 100% vested in our retirement plan and are entitled to receive benefits when you reach retirement age.

Career Development

SunTrust supports your career advancement and encourages your growth through improvement of your skills and expertise. We are committed to ensuring that you are provided the necessary tools to help meet your personal career goals.

SunTrust University (STU) -- SunTrust University is an in-house program providing training and development in eight colleges that represent specific lines of business and functional areas. The STU curriculum encourages further development of skills and expertise. Classes are offered via the web or in a classroom.

Tuition assistance -- As an eligible employee, you may, with manager approval and satisfactory job performance, be reimbursed for tuition, costs of books and application and registration fees incurred at institutions with regional or national accreditation. Related expenses will be considered for reimbursement if you satisfactorily complete the course work with a grade of "C" or better. The maximum reimbursement allowed for undergraduate courses is $1,500 and $2,500 for graduate level courses.

Employee Assistance Program

This program offers free, confidential, short-term counseling, as well as resource information on a variety of subjects, such as elder care and child care.

Confidential counseling services -- ComPsych® GuidanceResources® provides professional and personal assistance by experienced counselors to you and your family members for any type of problem. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the event you need help with personal and work-related issues. Five visits per issue in any 12-month period are provided at no personal expense to you.

Child and elder care resources and referral -- ComPsych® GuidanceResources® provides information that can help with the need to find appropriate child care as well as resources to meet the needs of aging parents. This resource and referral service helps you explore options, find background information and identify resources for choosing day care and/or finding elder care providers.

General living support -- FamilySource® provides expert information to help with decisions regarding a variety of concerns. This unit of the EAP helps you save time and takes the headache out of getting information on:

Time away from work

SunTrust recognizes that time away from work promotes balance and increased productivity. Worklife benefits include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave as well as other special occasions of paid leave.

Company-observed Holidays -- As a full-time employee, you will receive time off with pay for the following:

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Presidents' Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Vacation -- The SunTrust Vacation Policy offers vacation hours based on length of service, officer status, and salary grade.

Sick leave -- Our sick leave policy gives financial protection when you must miss work due to personal illness or injury, or the illness of an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) requiring care.

Bereavement leave -- SunTrust grants bereavement leave following the loss of a family member.

Family and medical leave -- You may take time away from work and have the right to job protection and continuation of benefits while on an unpaid leave for a period of up to 12 weeks during a rolling 12-month period for the following situations:


Jury duty -- To encourage you to carry out the civic responsibility of jury duty, we provide excused time away from work with full pay when this duty is required.

Military leave/reinstatement -- SunTrust supports you if you are a member of the U.S. Armed Forces by granting leave and employment rights in accordance with the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act and all other applicable laws, including applicable state laws.

Adoption Assistance

Up to $1,000 is available in financial assistance per adopted child. Adoptive parents are eligible for time off during the initial bonding period.

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account

You may set aside pretax up to $5,000 per year to pay for dependent care for children under age 13 or a dependent of any age that lives with you and is physically or mentally incapable of self-care.
