How does SunTrust prepare its Analysts to succeed?

Our training program is designed to provide Analysts with a solid foundation in Corporate and Investment Banking skills. At SunTrust, our Client Managers, Product Specialists, and Risk Managers work together as a well-coordinated team to provide superior financial solutions to our clients. Our Analysts are key members of this team.

Corporate and Investment Banking Analysts participate in a twelve-month training program, which couples classroom training with on-the-job experience in the form of rotations through multiple business units. Analysts attend courses covering topics such as accounting, financial analysis, deal structuring, product knowledge and professional development. The rotational portion of the program provides the opportunity to directly support Corporate Banking Client Managers or Debt Capital Markets Product Specialists, in one of our industry, geography, or product-focused groups. While working in these areas, Analysts develop their financial analysis skills, gain an understanding of corporate markets and client needs, and build expertise in corporate finance and a broad range of banking products.

This comprehensive program offers “the best of both worlds:” the technical skills and product knowledge needed to acquire additional responsibility, combined with ample exposure to a variety of business units and product lines within the organization. This allows Analysts to identify their strengths and interests as they prepare for a career in Client Management or Debt Capital Markets.

What is the career path?

The Analyst position provides a strong foundation for a career as a Client Manager, Product Specialist or Risk Manager within SunTrust Corporate and Investment Banking. In preparation for these roles, it is essential that the future Corporate and Investment Banker work first in a support role and then assume expanded responsibilities. After the initial twelve-month program, Analysts are engaged in more in-depth analysis and modeling and are introduced to the client management process. Once an Analyst has demonstrated proficiency in defined skill areas, and a position is available, he or she will be promoted to an Associate position. Associates are expected to have a much broader and more comprehensive product knowledge base and the capacity to begin building relationships with clients. This continuum of skill-building provides exposure to complex financial products and diverse market segments, which is essential prior to assuming direct client responsibilities in the role of a Client Manager or Product Specialist.
